Comprehension Check

Completeness: complete ยท Accuracy: fair

Student answered the Read & Respond items and the AI encoder/decoder explanation. However, Q1 is a specific detail rather than the main idea. Q4 is too vague. Q3 has grammar issues. Rewrites: 'used seals to measure deep polar ocean' โ†’ 'used seals to measure the deep polar ocean'; 'A new research develope a decoding AI' โ†’ 'A new research study developed a decoding AI'; 'keep the group peace and too coherent' โ†’ 'keep the group peaceful and coherent'; 'The write provide Detailed information' โ†’ 'The writer provides detailed information' or better, cite specific evidence from the article.

Vocab Builder

Completeness: complete

Word Bank entries are attempted but definitions are mismatched. 'flicts' is not a word; likely meant 'diffusion'. The definition 'the action of spreading in many directions' belongs to diffusion, not flicts. 'diffusion a female hormone that causes womb to prepare' should be 'progesterone: a female hormone that causes the womb to prepare'. 'progesterone. something to prevent pregnant.' should be 'prolactin: something that prevents pregnancy'. 'stow away' is correct but 'on other vehicle' โ†’ 'or other vehicle'. Needs correction.

Critical Thinking

Completeness: complete ยท Depth: fair

Student engages with opinion prompts and uses evidence (e.g., queen only produces scent when pregnant). Q1 for AI is unclear: 'I think it didn't' โ†’ 'I think the risks outweigh the benefits' or similar. Q3 for mole-rats has 'calming, aggressive person' โ†’ 'calming aggressive people'. Grammar: 'queen have to deliver baby' โ†’ 'queen has to deliver babies'. Ideas are present but need clearer expression.

See It Differently

Completeness: complete ยท Depth: fair

Creative perspective-taking. Seal answer has 'body dive' โ†’ 'body dives'; 'sensor start' โ†’ 'sensor starts'; 'for scientist' โ†’ 'for scientists'; 'excited of' โ†’ 'excited about'. Neuroscientist answer has 'develope' โ†’ 'develop'; 'a anti' โ†’ 'an anti'; 'need to be measured' โ†’ 'needs to be measured'; 'any where' โ†’ 'anywhere'; 'sth' โ†’ 'something'; 'people paralyzed' โ†’ 'paralyzed people'; 'use decodings' โ†’ 'use decoding'. Mole-rat answer has 'aroma bring' โ†’ 'aroma brings'; 'slow down there hormones' โ†’ 'slows down their hormone'; 'keep them' โ†’ 'keeps them'. Good imagination, but grammar needs work.

Quick Write

Completeness: complete ยท Depth: fair

Personal reflection is genuine. Tense and agreement errors: 'Dove love science' โ†’ 'Dove loved science'; 'settled to' โ†’ 'settled on'; 'I tried vast hobbies' โ†’ 'I tried various hobbies'; 'finally find' โ†’ 'finally found'; 'I get a better understanding on' โ†’ 'I gained a better understanding of'; 'It become' โ†’ 'It became'; 'a open mind' โ†’ 'an open mind'. Punctuation: 'piano. drawing' โ†’ 'piano, drawing'. Needs editing for fluency.

I. Seals help Oceanographer.

1. I think so. As in the article, Dove love science I like
physics and chemistry. She changed her majors like five
times at her college and finally settled to atmospheric chemistry.
This experience gave Dove rich knowledge in science that may help
with her major. For me, I tried vast hobbies like
piano. drawing, skating, dancing, basketball ..... and finally
find my true love: drawing. Through this, I get a better
understanding on who I am.

2. As my body dive deeper into the ocean, about 100 meters
deep, the sensor on my head start working and measuring.
I carefully move around, making sure that it can have a
precise measurement for scientist. I felt proud and excited of
doing this, yet concerned about how the sensors will slow
down my movement. I hope scientist can make them small
enough to reduce its weight to a minimum.

3. I tried cooking when I was seven and find myself
unexpectedly enjoying it. It become my interest how. This
experience told me that it's important to keep a open mind and
embrace new things.
Content is accurate: the student connects Dove's varied science background to her career and shares personal hobbies. However, frequent tense shifts and agreement errors hinder fluency. 'Dove love science' โ†’ 'Dove loved science'; 'finally find my true love' โ†’ 'finally found my true love'; 'I get a better understanding on who I am' โ†’ 'I gained a better understanding of who I am'. In the seal perspective, 'As my body dive deeper' โ†’ 'As my body dives deeper'; 'sensor on my head start working' โ†’ 'sensor on my head starts working'; 'scientist' โ†’ 'scientists'. The cooking reflection has 'It become my interest how' โ†’ 'It became my interest'; 'a open mind' โ†’ 'an open mind'. Ideas are creative and personal, but the page needs proofreading for verb tense, articles, and punctuation.

I. AI "Mind Reading" Tool.

1. I think it didn't. Once the technology is advanced
enough, people will use it illegally. Like you can get a
cap that looks normal but actually attachhed to sensors
that can measure your brain activity. There are no secrets
in face of this, leading to serious mental privacy issue.

2. I would develope a anti-brain measurement tool.
Since the brain activity need to be measured by electrical
tools. You could simply develope a warning tool that will
give you an alarm if you're any where near an EEG or
sth. Therefore, people paralyzed can use decodings freely
while others have a warning in hand.

3. First, the encoder was shown with a picture and
will predict brain activity from the image. Then the prediction
is given to the decoder the to output a picture. If
it's the original one, then the machine works well. If not,
the two AI will revise themselves to reconstruct a new
the.
The student engages with the AI article but Q1 misinterprets the prompt: 'I think it didn't' is unclear; better to state whether benefits outweigh risks. The anti-brain measurement tool idea is creative but not fully ethical. Q3 explains encoder/decoder but has errors: 'was shown with a picture' โ†’ 'is shown a picture'; 'the decoder the to output' โ†’ 'the decoder then outputs'; 'reconstruct a new the' โ†’ 'reconstruct a new image'. Spelling: 'attachhed' โ†’ 'attached'; 'develope' โ†’ 'develop'; 'a anti' โ†’ 'an anti'; 'any where' โ†’ 'anywhere'; 'sth' โ†’ 'something'. Subject-verb: 'brain activity need' โ†’ 'needs'. Good effort but needs clarity and grammar.

II. Naked Mole-Rats.

1. I think it's fair and is a form of cooperation. Because
the queen mole-rat can only produce the scent that can
prevent others from fighting when she is pregnant. Once she
is not having babies, the other mole-rats will kill her,
and the new queen will emerge. So others have to work, and
the queen have to deliver baby - it's a fair cooperation.

2. For workers, the scent is honey and cool. Its sweet
aroma bring peace to each worker's heart. They don't bother
to fight or mate. Just to smell the sweet scent. For
future queens, it's a deprivation. It slow down there
hormones production in them and keep them from mating.
The scent is something irresistible yet annoying.

3. I would like to investigate how the scent calms
down naked mole-rats, from a chemical perspective,
so to speak. Because this will give us a deeper
understanding of the scent, and even apply to human,
calming, aggressive person.
down
Content shows strong understanding of the mole-rat article. Q1 argues fair cooperation, citing the queen only produces scent when pregnant. Q2 offers creative perspectives but 'scent is honey and cool' is odd; 'Its sweet aroma bring' โ†’ 'brings'; 'It slow down there hormones' โ†’ 'slows down their hormone'; 'keep them from mating' โ†’ 'keeps'. Q3 proposes chemical investigation but 'calming, aggressive person' โ†’ 'calming aggressive people'. Overall good ideas, but grammar and word choice need refinement.

Read & Respond.
1. Dove, An oceanographer who changed several
majors before finally settling into her final role, used
seals to measure deep polar ocean.
2. A new research develope a decoding AI, that
can visualize what people are thinking through brain
activity measurement is bringing an up-and-coming future
for paralyzed people yet concerns on mental privacy.
3. Scientists found that the queen naked mole-rat
can release a scent that keep the group peace and too coherent,
showing a unique cooperation.
4. The write provide Detailed information.

Word Bank.
stow away. to hide on a ship, on other vehicle in order
to escape from a place or travel without paying
flicts. the action of spreading in many directions
diffusion a female hormone that causes womb to prepare
progesterone. something to prevent pregnant.
prolactin.
Read & Respond answers are too vague or have grammar errors. Q1 gives a detail rather than the main idea: 'used seals to measure deep polar ocean' โ†’ 'used seals to measure the deep polar ocean'. Q2 is run-on and has 'develope' โ†’ 'developed'; 'up-and-coming future' โ†’ 'promising future'. Q3 says 'keep the group peace and too coherent' โ†’ 'keep the group peaceful and coherent'. Q4 'The write provide Detailed information' is not evidence; it should cite specific data. Word Bank definitions are mismatched: 'flicts' is not a word (likely 'diffusion'), and definitions for diffusion/progesterone/prolactin are shifted. Needs careful matching and correction.
